The first resurrection

I am currently rereading John's gospel, when I saw this something of interest, follow with me. Come with me to Matthew chapter 27 beginning at verse 51 through 54, beginning at the time space mark of (;) in verse 51, I am using the ESV translation here. "Behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom; And the earth shook, and the rocks were split. The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many. When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said, "Truly this was the Son of God!"

Now hear the words of Jesus as recorded by John in chapter 5 beginning at verse 19, 24, 25 through 30, "Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of His own accord, but only what He sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.
"I say to you, whoever hears My word and believes Him Who sent Me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
"Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in Himself, so HE has granted the Son also to have life in Himself. And HE has given Him authority to execute judgment, because HE is the Son of Man. Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear His voice and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment. "I can do nothing on my own. As I hear, I judge, and My judgment is just, because I seek not My own will but the will of Him Who sent Me."

Now moving on to Ephesians chapter 4 beginning at verse 8 through 10 we have this, "Therefore it says, "When He ascended on high He led a host of captives, and He gave gifts to men." (In saying, "He ascended," what does it mean but that He had also descended into the lower regions, the earth? He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.)" From here I will move on to Colossians chapter 2 and verses 13 and 15, where this is fond, "And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This HE set aside, nailing it to the cross. Where He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in Him."

Now 1Corinthians 15 verse 20 through 23's first fruits, "In fact Christ has been raised from the dead, with the firstfruits of those (old testament witnesses) who had asleep. For as by a man came death, so by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits."

Now for the rest of this story, turn with me to Colossians 1 and verses 15 through 20 first where we find this statement; "He (Christ as Jesus) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through Him and for Him. And HE is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. HE is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. (Daniel 9:24) For in Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of His cross."

Now for those who will become His willing ones we have this also in Colossians 1 and verses 21 through 23; "You, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, HE has now reconciled in His body of flesh by His death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before Him, if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, became a minister."
