Continuing with, Our Eternal link to GOD in Christ as exposed by Him, the I AM. Part 4a

For some time now I have wanted to do a post on Paul's many prayers for our benefit of learning and understanding of Christ within us. And so with that thought I will now do just that from Colossians 1. But my aim is that which is within the overall context of this prayer in verses 9-10 of 1-17, after copying and pasting of the overall context I will do a KJV+ of my targeted passage, so lets cut to the quick:

Colossians 1:9-10 of 3-17 "We give thanks to GOD and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which we have with all the saints; For the hope which is laid up for us in heaven, whereof we've heard before (the foundation of the world was laid) in the word of the truth of the gospel; Which is come to us, as it is in all the world; And brings forth fruit, as it does also in you, since the day we heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth: As we also learned of Epaphras our dear fellowservant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ; Who also declared to us your love in the Spirit.

For this cause we also, since the day we heard of it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that we all might be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;  That we all might walk worthy of the LORD in all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of GOD; Strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, to all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; Giving thanks to Father, Who has made us meet (fit) to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who has delivered (redeemed) us from the power of darkness, and has translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son: In Whom we have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible GOD (Elohiym), the firstborn of every creature: For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him: For He is before all things, and by Him all things consist."

Now for the KJV+ of 9-10 from which we can draw some insight to clear our perception of thought/mindset: Col 1:9-10 "ForG1223 this causeG5124 weG2249 also,G2532 sinceG575 the(G3739) dayG2250 we heardG191 it, do notG3756 ceaseG3973 to prayG4336 forG5228 you,G5216 andG2532 to desireG154 thatG2443 you might be filledG4137 with theG3588 knowledgeG1922 of HisG846 willG2307 inG1722 allG3956 wisdomG4678 andG2532 spiritualG4152 understanding;G4907

From this text we can glean many things if we but take the time required to do so. Our first word is G4137 translated as filled: plēroō, play-ro'-o, From G4134 {plērēs, play'-race, From G4130 [plēthō, play'-tho, pleh'-o, A prolonged form of a primary word πλέω pleō (which appears only as an alternate in certain tenses and in the reduplicated form of πίμπλημι pimplēmi to “fill” (literally or figuratively [imbue, influence, supply]); specifically to fulfil (time): - accomplish, full (. . . come), furnish.]; replete, or covered over; by analogy complete: - full.}; to make replete, that is, (literally) to cram (a net), level up (a hollow), or (figuratively) to furnish (or imbue, diffuse, influence), satisfy, execute (an office), finish (a period or task), verify (or coincide with a prediction), etc.: - accomplish, X after, (be) complete, end, expire, fill (up), fulfil, (be, make) full (come), fully preach, perfect, supply.

The next word would be G1922 translated as knowledge, which we have already covered but it bares repetition and is repeated within both verses: epignōsis, ip-ig'-no-sis, From G1921 {epiginōskō, ep-ig-in-oce'-ko, From G1909 {epi, ep-ee', A primary preposition properly meaning superimposition (of time, place, order, etc.), as a relation of distribution [with the genitive case], that is, over, upon, etc.; of rest (with the dative case) at, on, etc.; of direction (with the accusative case) towards, upon, etc.: - about (the times), above, after, against, among, as long as (touching), at, beside, X have charge of, (be-, [where-]) fore, in (a place, as much as, the time of, -to), (because) of, (up-) on (behalf of) over, (by, for) the space of, through (-out), (un-) to (-ward), with. In compounds it retains essentially the same import, at, upon, etc. (literally or figuratively).} and G1097 {ginōskō, ghin-oce'-ko, A prolonged form of a primary verb; to “know” (absolutely), in a great variety of applications and with many implications (as shown at left, with others not thus clearly expressed): - allow, be aware (of), feel, (have) known (-ledge), perceive, be resolved, can speak, be sure, understand.}; to know upon some mark, that is, recognise; by implication to become fully acquainted with, to acknowledge: - (ac-, have, take) know (-ledge, well), perceive.  }; recognition, that is, (by implication) full discernment, acknowledgement: - (ac-) knowledge (-ing, -ment).

Then the word G4678 translated wisdom: sophia, sof-ee'-ah, From G4680 {sophos, sof-os', Akin to σαφής saphēs (clear); wise (in a most general application): - wise.}; wisdom (higher or lower, worldly or spiritual): - wisdom.

Next comes the word G4152 translated as spiritual: pneumatikos, phyoo-mat-ik-os', From G4151 {pneuma, pnyoo'-mah, From G4154 {pneō, pneh'-o, A primary word; to breathe hard, that is, breeze: - blow.}; a current of air, that is, breath (blast) or a breeze; by analogy or figuratively a spirit, that is, (human/humanity) the rational soul, (by implication) vital principle, mental disposition, etc., or (superhuman) an angel, daemon, or (divine) God, Christ’s spirit, the Holy spirit: - ghost, life, spirit (-ual, -ually), mind.}; non-carnal, that is, (humanly) ethereal (as opposed to gross), or (daemoniacally) a spirit (concretely), or (divinely) supernatural, regenerate, religious: - spiritual.

Then we face the word G4907 translated understanding: sunesis, soon'-es-is, From G4920 {suniēmi, soon-ee'-ay-mee, From G4862 {sun, soon, A primary preposition denoting union; with or together (much closer than G3326 or G3844), that is, by association, companionship, process, resemblance (image and likeness restored to it's original design), possession, instrumentality, addition, etc.: - beside, with. In compounds it has similar applications, including completeness.} and ἵημι hiēmi (to send); to put together, that is, (mentally) to comprehend; by implication to act piously: - consider, understand, be wise.}; a mental putting together, that is, intelligence or (concretely) the intellect: - knowledge, understanding.

Now here's something that I have not done before, the listing of cross references for this passage dealing with the prayers for the church/body/family of Christ: John 17:20, Romans 1:9, Ephesians 1:16, 3:14, Philippians 1:4 and 1Thessalonians 1:2. Lets hit on the spiritual growth aspect here which I'll show in subtitle fashion: In Fruitfulness, 2Cor. 9:10; In Christ, Eph. 4:15; Col. 1:10; In Love, 1The. 3:12, 4:10; For Perfection, Heb. 6:1; Through "The Word" 1Peter 2:2; By Accretion, 2Peter 1:5-6; In Grace and knowledge, 2Peter 3:18.

There has been much discourse on this, some from the religious crowd, is negative meaning wrong in nature, while those who are among the Saints it is positive. I may look at another passage of such thought written by Paul soon. As the LORD leads. My problem is this, which one? As I see many hidden references to our origin contained within the context of them all and that origin restored by the actions of the Cross and our joint crucifixion, burial, descent, resurrection and ascension that followed shortly thereafter. All for the purpose of redeeming of the image and likeness hidden deep within us bone structure from which our immune system grows which is the source of our DNA, in which is hidden the true name of GOD in man, Genesis 1:26-28.
