Thessalonians part 36

In Chapter 12 of Jeremiah beginning at verse 6, 7-13, 14-17: “For even your brethren, and the house of your father, even they have dealt treacherously with you; yes, they have called a multitude after you: believe them not, though they speak fair words to you.

I have forsaken My house, I have left My heritage; I have given the dearly beloved of My soul into the hand of her enemies. My heritage is to Me as a lion in the forest; it cries out against Me: therefore have I hated it. My heritage is to Me a speckled bird, the birds round about are against her; come, assemble all the beasts of the field, come to devour. Many pastors have destroyed My vineyard, they have trodden My portion under foot, they have made My pleasant portion a desolate wilderness. They have made it desolate, desolate, it mourns before Me; the whole land is made desolate, because no man lays it to heart. The spoilers are come upon all high places through the wilderness: for the sword of the LORD shall devour from one end of the land even to the other end of the land: no flesh shall have peace. They have sown wheat, but shall reap thorns: they have put themselves to pain, but shall not profit: and they shall be ashamed of your revenues because of the fierce anger of the LORD.

Thus says the LORD against all My evil neighbours, that touch the inheritance which I have caused My people Israel to inherit; Behold, I will pluck them out of their land, and pluck out the house of Judah from among them. And it shall come to pass, after that I have plucked them out I will return, and have compassion on them, and will bring them again, every man to his heritage, and every man to his land. And it shall come to pass, if they will diligently learn the ways of My people, to swear by My name, The LORD lives; as they taught My people to swear by Baal; then shall they be built in the midst of My people. But if they will not obey, I will utterly pluck up and destroy that nation, says the LORD.”

In Chapter 14 beginning at verse 10-12, 13-18, with emphasis is on 13 and 14; “Thus says the LORD to this people, Thus have they loved to wander, you have not refrained their feet, therefore the LORD does not accept you; I will now remember your iniquity, and visit their sins. Then said the LORD to me, Pray not for this people for their good. When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and an oblation, I will not accept them: but I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence.

Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, the prophets say to them, you shall not see the sword, neither shall you have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place. Then the LORD said to me, The prophets prophesy lies in My name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spoke I to them: they prophesy to you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their own heart. Therefore said the LORD concerning the prophets that prophesy in My name, and I sent them not, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land; By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed. And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to bury them, them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters: for I will pour their wickedness upon them. Therefore you shall say this word to them; Let my eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease: for the virgin daughter of My people are broken with a great breach, with a very grievous blow. If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, then behold them that are sick with famine! yes, both the prophet and the priest go about into a land that they know not.”

And next chapter 17 beginning at verses 1-4, 5-8, 9-11, 12-18: “The sin of Judah are written with a pen of iron, and with the point of a diamond: it is graven upon the table of their heart, and upon the horns of your altars; While their children remember their altars and their groves by the green trees upon the high hills. My mountain is in the field, I will give your substance and all your treasures to the spoiler, and your high places for sin, throughout all your borders. And you, even yourselves, shall discontinue from your heritage that I gave to you; and I will cause you to serve your enemies in the land which you know not: for you have kindled a fire in My anger, which shall burn forever.

Thus said the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusts in man, and makes flesh his arm, and whose heart departs from the LORD. For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good comes; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited. But blessed is the man that trusts in the LORD, and whose hope is the LORD. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, that spreads out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat comes, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the LORD search the heart, I try its reins, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings. As the partridge sits on eggs, and hatchs them not; so is he that gets riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool.

A glorious high throne from the beginning is the place of our sanctuary. O LORD, the hope of Israel, all that forsake You shall be ashamed, they that depart from You shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the LORD, the fountain of living waters. Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for You are my praise. Behold, they say to Me, Where is the word of the LORD? let it come now. As for Me, I have not hastened from being a pastor to follow you: neither have I desired the woeful day; You know: that which came out of My lips was right before you. Be not a terror to me: You are my hope in the day of evil. Let them be confounded that persecute Me, but let not me be confounded: let them be dismayed, but let not me be dismayed: bring upon them the day of evil, and destroy them with double destruction.”

I have with purpose not edited these passages by interjecting a tought of my own but rather am letting them speak for themselves as they are meant to. Within them are revealed the selfishness and greediness of mans corrupted heart from which springs all evil.
