Our introduction to the Hebrew letter of encouragement to the Hebrew converts to Christ's revelation as their new way of life our of spiritual darkness to the Light of promise. First a note about the author and then Christ our Sabbath Rest before we look at Righteousness by His Faith. These I shall break up into two days sharing.
The Author:
The fact that Paul's message, which is the revelation of our restored / exoneration into innocence, being based on the finished work of the cross, as witnessed in all his Epistles, is evidenced throughout this magnificent study, it overshadows the argument that his signature as probable author is absent.
The Sabbath Rest:
In Christ the Sabbath Rest is satisfied and is no longer a shadow prefiguring the real, a token holy day in the Jewish week, but the celebration of humanity's perfect redemption in which the exact image and likeness of GOD is revealed and redeemed in our human form as first seen and known in Genesis 2. Humanity's original innocence is redeemed. "Having made purification for sins, he sat down..." The executive authority of his Throne is established on the fact of our innocence! The Sabbath is now a place of GOD'S unhindered enjoyment realized in humanity and humanity's unhindered enjoyment of the Father. Through the torn veil of his and our flesh, he has triumphantly open a new and living way for humanity into the life of our design in the agape embrace of our Maker.
This letter has a Hebrew among whom there are those of Jewish faith in the audience, in mindset. And is written to exhort the Jewish believer neither to underestimate such a grave salvation, or to clutter the message with redundant Jewish rituals and sentiments.
Under the dispensation of GOD'S economy the Law based on individual performance, of historic Israel failed to access the redemptive Sabbath of GOD and remained snared, entrapped in an inferior slave-mentality, of "I-am-not," "we are insignificant grasshoppers in our own eyes," mentality of Numbers 13:33.
Let us therefore be prompt to understand and fully appropriate that rest and not fall again into the same snare and religious trap of unbelief.
The message that GOD spoke through Christ becomes a living word of revelation and powerful influence in us, cutting like a surgeon's scalpel, sharper than a soldier's two edged sword, piercing to the deepest core of humanity's conscience to the dividing of soul and spirit ending the dominance of the sense realm and its neutralizing effect upon the human spirit. In this way a person's spirit is freed to be the ruling influence again in our thoughts and intentions of the spirit/hearts over ruling of our mind. The scruntity of this word detects every possible disease, discerning the body's deepest secrets where joint and bone-marrow meet. (The moment we cease from our own efforts to justify ourselves by yielding to the integrity of the message that announces the overwhelming success of the cross, GOD'S word is triggered into action within us. Bring us from our fore mere life conscience to the eternal Christ consciousness.) What GOD speaks to us in sonship (the incarnation), radiates his image and likeness in our redeemed innocence our whole being, body, soul, and awakened spirit. (Hebrews 4:11-12)
