The LORD our Passover

Beginning the indexing list for May 3rd

In the second paragraph I have this quote from chapter 21 of Matthew, where we find Jesus after the entry into Jerusalem upon the colt picking up at verse 18 we have this; “In the morning as He returned into the city, He hungered. And when He saw a fig tree in the way, He came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said to it, Let no fruit grow on you henceforward forever. And presently the fig tree withered away. And when the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away! Jesus answering said to them, Verily I say to you, If you have faith, and doubt not, you shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if you shall say to this mountain, Be removed, and be cast into the sea; it shall be done. All things, whatever you shall ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive.”

This parable has its roots found in Judges chapter 9 verses 7 though 57 and beyond. But I want to turn to Matthew 24 where the Lord in verses 32-35 states this, before we look to the other related passages:

Matthew 24:32-35 “Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is nigh: So likewise, when you shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the door. Verily I say to you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”

Now for the other writers quote, first Mark 13 and then Luke 21.

Mark 13:24-27, 28-37 “In those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. And then shall He send His angels, and shall gather together His elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.

Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near: So in like manner, when you shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors. Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done. Heaven and earth shall pass away: but My words shall not pass away. But of that day and hour knows no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. Take heed, watch and pray: for you know not when the time is. For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch. Watch therefore: for you know not when the master of the house comes, at even, or at midnight, or at the cock crowing, or in the morning: Lest coming suddenly He find you sleeping. And what I say to you I say to all, Watch.”
