The LORD our Passover

Continuing the indexing for May 11th

Next comes John 19 where we find this beginning at verse 23 reading down through to verse 30, “Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took His garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also His coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout. They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which said, They parted My raiment among them, and for My vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did. Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple standing by, whom He loved, He said to His mother, Woman, behold your son! Then said He to the disciple, Behold your mother! And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home.

After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished*, that the scripture might be fulfilled, said, I thirst. Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to His mouth. When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, He said, It is finished: and He bowed His head, and gave up the ghost.”

* “all things were now accomplished” means just exactly what it implies, the alloted time for Israel's being was now at its appointed end or close, as Jesus by His vicarious death brought about its close as the Law, Prophets and Psalms reveal as His goal, the point aimed at. The Greek word here used is teleo G5055 from G5056 which has this meaning, to end.

Picking up at; John 16:2-3 “They shall put you out of the synagogues: yes, the time comes, that whoever kills you will think that he does God service. And these things will they do to you, because they have not known the Father, nor Me.”

Saul of Tarsus was not converted in the usual manor as stated in the following because he was a Pharisee's Pharisee an as such was a persecutor of those of the Way as stated in Acts 8:1, 22:20. I will pick it up at the end of chapter 7 where we find this from Stephens own words, beginning in verse 47 through 8:4;Solomon built him a house. Howbeit the most High dwells not in temples made with hands; as said the prophets, Heaven is My throne, and earth is My footstool: what house will you build Me? said the Lord: or what is the place of My rest? (many do not see or hear what Genesis 1 and 2 are saying about His rest in 1:31 through 2:4 where we find this beginning at verse 26 through 28, and then 31 of Chapter 1 through 2:5; “God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth. So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them (Here we have the beginning of all things as spoken before the foundation of the world was laid, man is a spirit being united to the LORD-God as the following statement reveals. Lesson with all due care.). And God blessed them, and God said to them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.... God saw every thing that He had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

On the seventh day God ended His work which He had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made. God therefore blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it He had rested from all His work which God created and made. These are the beginning of generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD-God made the earth and the heavens, and every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD-God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.”
